You will feel like throwing in the towel

Today I wished I had a job. Sometimes you feel you need a job and not a business. Sometimes you wish someone else made the decisions, took the fall, and gave you a paycheck. Today, was my day to feel this way.

My day started out fine but when I looked over my “to-do” list and looked over the projects in the works and realized they vastly outweighed the income being brought in, I just wanted to give it up. Imagine an elephant. Now imagine a mouse. The elephant is my workload and the mouse is my income. If only I were kidding. Business is hard work. When you have a family and rely on the flexibility of a business you realize flexibility is an illusion. You will not have a boss handing you a pink slip for using a day to care for a sick child or get your car repaired. However, with daily routines and unexpected occurrences the flexibility turns into sacrifice. I could make more money the more I worked. However, I cannot work more and be a mom and homeschooler to four children. It is all about balance but also about not taking on more than you can chew. But when biting off more than you can chew only turns into empty calories you can get down. You may want to give up and just get a job. At least you won’t be paying to work as you often do investing in your own business.

So, there’s the down side. The down side is that sometimes you want to throw in the towel. Sometimes you will sacrifice opportunity for family. Think about it. Is the thought of giving up worth not even starting? Is it really a sacrifice to put family before opportunity? In every job I had there were times I wanted to quit. Working for yourself will be no different. There are tough times. Understand that so when the tough times come and you have a day like I had today; you don’t throw in the towel.
