Taking the Plunge

I have decided to take the plunge…no, not into the toilet but into moving. The decision has been made to put our house up for sale. We are ready to move to another community.

But honestly, all I can think about is how I will keep up my house so that it is always ready for a showing, especially with three teenagers. In fact, the idea of showing my home stirs up more stress than the task of packing and moving a family of five.

So I have decided to put a plan into place. It really works out well, considering I have been on a spring cleaning frenzy. I have already tackled my living room, dining room and most of my kitchen.

Not only have I been doing some deep cleaning but I have been decluttering at the same time. I think this might be one of the keys to maintaining your home when you decide to move.

The less you have the better.

Thankfully we aren’t in a rush. In fact, we are giving ourselves all of April to get the house prepared. Last night my husband and I sat down to discuss the things that need to be done and who is going to tackle what.

Then in May we plan on seeing the “For Sale” sign up in our yard. But then comes the dreaded part…showings. I remember the last time we moved, about six years ago. At the time my children were 6, 8 and 11 years old. It wasn’t easy back then either.

At that time it was all about the toys. This time it is all about piles of clothes, empty containers, bowls, spoons and who knows what else will find its way to their floors.

Who knows how long I will be constantly working at trying to maintain a house that will be showable at the drop of a hat. As if it weren’t difficult enough trying to keep things up around here with the pets and teens.

How have you handled keeping up a house that’s for sale, so that it’s ready to be shown?
