Easter Party Prep

Just because Easter is only a week away doesn’t mean you have to stress about the party planning. After all, if worse came to worst, you could always host a potluck rather than preparing all the food yourself. In addition, you could have guests bring extra candy-filled plastic eggs and make like Peter Cottontail by hiding them for the annual backyard hunt.

Another option is to keep the party simple. Spend the day enjoying the presence of your company rather than worrying about whether you have enough chips and dip to go around. The games and activities can also be simplified to keep the chaos to a minimum.

For example, if you don’t want to set-up an egg coloring station for kids to decorate a few hard boiled Easter ovals, then have them make paper versions. Simply cut-out large egg shapes from construction paper. Next, let your young guests embellish them with stickers, crayons, markers, glitter glue, sequins, buttons, gemstones, or ribbon. Older kids can then punch a hole in their eggs, thread some yarn through, and tie them on a clothes hanger to make an Easter egg mobile.

Another fast and easy Easter party activity involves an overstuffed pinata. Fill the Easter-themed pinata with candy and small toys, and then let kids take turns seeing who can smash it open with a stick. Younger kids can also have a blast crafting Popsicle stick crosses to take home as a party favor. All you need to do is give them some glue to adhere two Popsicle sticks together in the shape of a cross. Then, they can paint it or decorate it with rhinestones or sequins.

For those of you who can’t pass up a good Easter egg hunt, but want to avoid the frantic free-for-all that typically ensues once the kids are let loose outside, try using a simple color code system whereby specific age groups hunt for certain colored eggs. For example, 3 and 4 year olds hunt for blue eggs only, while 6 and 7 year olds are only allowed to collect red eggs. This way, your youngest guests are not competing against the older kids.
