Daily Prioritizing

I don’t know if you are like me but there are many days where I feel like I will never be able to accomplish everything I have to do. In fact, there are too many days when that is exactly what happens. I end the day feeling like I have somehow failed because not everything on my mental “to-do” list was done.

The problem is that we haven’t learned the importance of putting in place daily priorities. Instead we just take on this and that without considering whether it is doable.

Do you feel like your home is oftentimes the neglected area of your life? You are working, running the kids here and there, volunteering, trying to scrape together a meal…it can feel like the day has just taken off without you really being ready.

But you can be ready if you establish some daily priorities. That means deciding which things must be done, which things don’t need to be done and those that can wait.

You see, we can’t really separate the keeping of our home from everything else in our life. That’s because everything we do is interconnected.

Our lives aren’t really compartmentalized as we might like to think. It ends up flowing together, even when we move from work mode to cooking dinner mode.

So the key is to spend about 5 minutes every morning thinking about the day ahead and prioritizing what we need to do. You write down all the things that MUST be done. Then you write down all the things that can be done, IF there is time.

In general there are specific areas of your life that will require something from you each day. This includes your family, your house and your work. There may be additional areas that make up your daily life.

But my point is that you have to accomplish something in each area. It doesn’t have to be, “Well the house will just have to wait another day or another week.” No, if you prioritize your life it
will all be taken care of.

What ways have you learned to prioritize your days so that you can accomplish the most important things?
