Post Easter clearance sales allow you to stock up on mountains of scrapbook paper, and I’m not just referring to pastel-colored cardstock. Today, I found patterned, glitter and pearlescent sheen scrapbook paper on sale at Hobby Lobby. I bought a minimal amount of the specialty paper compared to some ladies who left with a haul that required a forklift.
After holiday sales are great for frugal scrappers looking to load up their craft spaces with inexpensive supplies, but what do you do with 80 pounds of paper?
My suggestion: get punchy.
Dust off your paper punches and flex your hand muscles. There are so many different ways you can spice up your scrapbook layouts with simple paper punches. For starters you don’t have to stick with a single shape. For a couple of dollars you can experiment with circle, square, oval and rectangle-shaped punches that can then be used to design page borders, frames or corners.
If you are lucky you can score cheap seasonal punches at post-holiday sales. By purchasing a variety of paper punches you don’t have to spend big bucks on a Cricut electronic cutter or a Cuttlebug die cut machine. Rather, put all those pounds of post-Easter paper or foam adhesive to good use by going to town with your punches.
For example, you could cut a circle punch in half and then trim one end with decorative scalloped edge scissors to create the top of an umbrella or a skirt for a paper doll. Oval punches coupled with pastel-colored Easter cardstock can yield pretty eggs which you can use to create letters for a page title or a dainty page border.
In addition, circle punches can be stacked and used to create a snowman or you can combine the round punches with leaf-shaped ones to make a unique flower bouquet. Circle punches are also ideal for sports-themed layouts. With some ink, paint or simple stitching you can turn circle paper punches into baseballs, soccer balls, basketballs or beach balls.
