Wait, don’t throw those used coffee grounds away. There are many things you can do with coffee grounds. Why waste something that can be put to work for you for free?
Keep Bugs Away
Coffee grounds can be used as a natural way to keep ants and slugs off of your garden plants. Mound up the grounds and form them into a ring around your plants. The bugs won’t cross the ring.
Deodorize
Dry the grounds first and then place a bowl of them in your refrigerator. The coffee grounds will absorb stray odors from food and keep everything fresh tasting. Replace the grounds with new ones every week or two.
Fertilize Your Houseplants or Garden Plants
Stir used grounds into the soil to give your plants much-needed nitrogen. Or, simply mix the grounds with water in your watering can and water your plants as usual.
Clean Your Fireplace
One of the most unpleasant tasks can be cleaning the fireplace, since sweeping ashes creates a lot of dust. Use this trick to make the job easier. Sprinkle damp coffee grounds on the ashes before you sweep to cut down on the dust. You’ll breath easier.
Fix Wood Furniture
If you have scratches in dark wood furniture, you can use damp coffee grounds to “erase” them. Dip a cotton swap into the grounds and paint them into the scratches.
Make Your Own Custom Stationery
Take plain paper and make it into custom stationery by using coffee grounds. Mix the grounds with water, then dip your piece of paper in the mix. Allow it to “steep” for two minutes and then remove the paper. Let the paper dry on a drying rack. Brush the loose grounds off of the paper and you’ll have a nice custom antique look. Try it with magazine or book pages too, to create some personalized artwork.
