Lindsey Lohan has been in the news, fairly often, as she made court appearances and went in and out of rehab. She has been selected to star in a new biography movie about Elizabeth Taylor. The film producers will have to pay a lot for insurance just in case Lindsey does something that halts, or ends, the production of the film.
There is a new movie being made called “Liz and Dick”. It is a biographical film about the life of Elizabeth Taylor. Lindsey Lohan has been selected to play the role of Liz. Producer Larry Thompson has said that he selected Lindsey Lohan for this role because he believes she has the “vulnerability” that is required in order to play the emotional screen legend, Elizabeth Taylor.
Every time a movie is made, it requires certain types of insurance. One of these types is called Cast Insurance. This reimburses the production for anything that might happen to the star of a film. There is the potential that the insurance companies who offer this type of coverage will consider a particular actor or actress too risky to insure. If this decision was made about Lindsey Lohan, then yes, she would be considered “uninsurable”.
Once this happens, there are two things that can be done about it. An insurer might offer coverage for that actress that comes with premiums that are a double-digit percentage of the production budget. This can easily be more than a particular production can afford. Another option is if the “uninsurable” star manages to find his or her own financial backer. In other words, they need to find a wealthy person who will pay for the expensive insurance.
In this case, producer Larry Thompson has a “Plan B” in mind. He hasn’t specified exactly what that means, but there is speculation that perhaps he has another actress “waiting in the wings”, so to speak, that can step into the production if Lindsey Lohan becomes unable to.
He also moved the shoot from Canada to Los Angeles, California, in order to “minimize some risk”. In other words, the movie is now being filmed much closer to the Los Angeles courts than it would have been if the production continued to be shot in Canada. So, if Lindsey Lohan gets into the type of trouble that involves a court appearance, it will be less disruptive to the production now.
