In the Blink of an Eye

Tonight as I was getting Logan ready for bed he asked if he could see the video of him in my tummy. As I sat watching that little boy wriggling around in my belly I couldn’t help but feel a little sad. Where has the time gone? That precious little baby is turning four this month! How did this happen? He is growing up so fast; I just want to savor every second.

So often as single parents we get caught up in the never-ending list of things to do, that we forget to lay the stress aside and just enjoy our children. No matter how hard you work, there is always going to be more on your to-do list, it is the nature of life, but it isn’t our to-do list that our children are going to remember when they’re grown. They won’t remember the dirty dishes lying in the sink; they won’t remember that you let the laundry sit for a few days; but they will remember the love they felt in your home. They will remember trips to the park and late nights watching old movies in bed with their mommy. Those are the memories they are going to cherish.

Your house may not be quite as clean as you would like, but building those relationships with your children is what this life is all about. There will be plenty of time for the laundry when they are grown, but for now, enjoy their little giggles. Chase them around the house and kiss their little faces. The time passes so quickly; you don’t want to miss a thing. As single parents we have the unique opportunity to have that special one-on-one time with our little ones. Cherish it. Have a date night each week totally devoted to your children; you will create memories that will last a lifetime, and that is what being a Mom is really all about.
