This could be your week to attend a fun and exciting genealogy class, conference, or event. There are plenty of genealogy related events happening all across the United States every week. Here is a quick list of some of them. One might be taking place near where you live!
On May 7, 2012, the Charlevoix Public Library, which is located in Charlevoix, Michigan, will complete its series of genealogy classes. This last class is called “Hands-On Practice”. It will be taught by Carol McWain Goodenough, who is a professional genealogist, and Barbara Manley Hernden, who is her assistant.
On May 9, 2012, the Fleetwood Area Public Library, which is located in Fleetwood, Pennsylvania, will hold an introduction to genealogy that is sponsored by Friends of the Fleetwood Area Public Library. It will begin at 6:30 in the evening, and will end at 7:30 at night. Charleen Stehman, a librarian at the Berks Genealogical Society, will be the featured speaker. She will explain the basics of researching family history with Berks County resources.
On May 10, 2012, the Rolling Hills Library, which is located in St. Joseph, Missouri, will continue its series of genealogy programs. This one is called “Genealogy Ground School”. It will give basic tips for conducting family searches. The programs are being offered by the Northwest Missouri Genealogical Society. It will be offered in two sessions. One will start at 1:00 in the afternoon and end at 3:00 in the afternoon. The other will start at 6:00 in the evening and end at 8:00 at night.
Also on May 10, 2012, The Genealogy Club that meets at the Augusta Public Library, which is located in Augusta, Wisconsin, will do an end of the year lunch and field trip. The group will leave at 11:45 in the morning. They will go to Tanya’s Soup Kitchen in Wichita for lunch. Then they will have a tour of Wichita’s First Presbyterian Church, which includes a historical overview of the church’s place in the foundation of Wichita. That tour will begin at 1:30 in the afternoon.
On May 12, 2012, the Allen County Public Library, which is located in Fort Wayne, Indiana, will start a series of the Genealogy Center’s beginners’ classes. The first one is called “Getting the Most From a Book”. It will discuss the basics of using books and how to retrieve and evaluate all possible information. The class will begin at 10:00 in the morning and will end at 11:00 in the morning.
