Pregnant or Trying to Get Pregnant? There’s an App For That

Since there’s an app for almost everything these days, it should come as no surprise that there are plenty of apps out there that have been designed for pregnant women. I’ve got an Android smartphone, so these are Android apps. Many of these apps have Apple counterparts that you can find by searching in iTunes. Here are descriptions of three free apps that I think might come in handy during your pregnancy.

Contraction Timer by L-J-Holmes is an app whose title leaves nothing to the imagination. When you start to experience contractions, it is important that you time them so that you can communicate with your doctors or midwives about how far apart the contractions are and how long they last. This app lets you time each contraction and it records them in a log that is easy to read. This app is great because it is easy to use which is important – contractions hurt and the last thing that you need during labor is something that will frustrate you.

My Pregnancy Today by Baby Center is an app designed by what many women consider to be one of the web’s most valuable sources of pregnancy related information. My Pregnancy Today delivers fun and interesting facts and images about what is going on with your body and your baby each day throughout your pregnancy. As much as we would like to see what’s going on inside our bellies, the uterus was not made with a window so an app like this is a great way to “watch” your baby grow and develop.

Period Tracker by GP International LLC is a great app for those of you who are planning your pregnancy. Even if you are not “trying” to get pregnant, it is a good app to use because it can help you to accurately determine your due date when you do happen to get pregnant. Trust me – if you can not remember the dates of your cycles or when the “act in question” occurred you may end up with a due date that is not quite right. For example, on March 16 I got the surprise of a lifetime when I went in for an ultrasound and was told that I was 40 weeks pregnant and my son Blake, who was due on April 17, was going to be born the next day.
