It is Memorial Day weekend and what better way to remember the military than to give some of them homes?
Tim McGraw, along with Chase and Operation Homefront are going to give homes to 25 veterans as a promotion for McGraw’s Brothers of the Sun summer tour. The United Service Organization (USO) and Chase are presenting the tour, which will also receive contributions from the Academy of Country Music’s ACM Lifting Lives program and the Premier Group on behalf of the North Carolina Furniture Manufacturers.
These mortgage-free homes will go to veterans who have been wounded in battle (wounded warriors) and other service members in need.
The tour, which also includes Kenny Chesney, kicks off on Memorial Day at the Beacon Theatre in New York city during Fleet Week. On each stop of the tour, a home will be given away.
Why is McGraw doing this? “My sister’s a veteran of the first Gulf War. My uncle was a Vietnam veteran and my grandfather was a World War II veteran. I’ve always felt a deep sense of respect and obligation to our troops,” he said.
McGraw went on to say, “Being able to reward them for their dedicated work with a new home will be even more rewarding for us. It feels so good to give back to them, and to have the opportunity to entertain them on Memorial Day is something I’m honored to do.”
This isn’t McGraw’s first time helping veterans. Last year, Jared LaDuke and his family got a furnished apartment in Texas from McGraw and Operation Homefront. LaDuke lost part of his leg in an explosion while serving in Iraq.
Don’t fret if you won’t be in New York City on Monday – the concert will be streamed on YouTube and to military bases around the world through The Pentagon Channel.
