When a Cloud Makes Your Day Bright

My computer hard drive stores my life. All that is me is contained neatly on a piece of technology. While it sounds a bit degrading, it is nonetheless true. Memories, baby photos, and writing that is near to my heart, as well as curriculum, are all stored on my hard drive. When my computer crashed a while back I cried. I sat in front of my computer and wept saying “it’s all gone…gone…it’s all gone.” Thankfully, it was not. Not to mention the relief from being alone while I had my mini breakdown. You would think I learned a valuable lesson from that scare. Well, lesson learned but no action to back it up was done.

Today, I knew I had to get the info off one computer to put on my other computer. The computer I needed to remove the files from is finding a new home. Since I used it quite a bit I had several images and documents that I wanted to preserve. However, there were far too many to email to myself. I do not have that kind of time. Thumb drive to the rescue! I put in a thumb drive and uploaded the files. Everything good, right? Well, it seemed so until I looked for it on my desk and it wasn’t there. I found it on my mantel and grabbed it. Then something every mysterious happened. I got distracted with a child’s needs and now I don’t even remember putting the thumb drive down. If I didn’t know better I would say it vanished into thin air. Worried about my sanity and my documents, I searched everywhere I could think of and came up empty handed. I did not have another thumb drive available. Even so, I would probably lose that one. My track record for losing things since I became a mom grows daily.

The only solution to be had was to stuff a cloud with all my images and documents. Since I have the iPhone, I wanted to choose a cloud service that I could integrate with it. Dropbox came recommended by a computer whiz friend and I knew there was an app, so I went for it. It saved my life. I was able to upload everything I needed to the cloud. Not only that I could access any of it on any of my computers or my phone. Yes, a back up for your back up is sometimes very necessary. Lesson learned.
