Quick Tips for the Living Room

Your living room does not have to be expensive or time-consuming to decorate. With just one trip to any decorating store and only a few minutes of your time, you can make your living room look more comfortable and stylish. Here are some quick tips for helping you make the most of your space, when you do not have the most time to put towards it.

The seating
Decorate seating by draping a bright blanket over the back. The blanket will be functional on cold nights and a pleasing accessory. Choose a small, fun pattern with a fun texture, such a chiffon or fleece.

Pillows are great accessories for any seating choice. Pillows are comfortable for those evenings with you need a quick catnap, but then are also supportive if you need to prop yourself up. You can purchase ready-made pillows in just about any color, pattern or texture. Keep your eyes open for pillows that would go well with your living room. Remember: pillows can also change with the season and help to give your whole living room a quick makeover.

Make sure that cushions are always fluffed and that the back pillows are always upright. Pillows that slump into the soda or are falling to the floor are distracting and can quickly make your space look shabby.

The Floor
Your floor, whether hardwood or otherwise, should always be clean and free from debris, such as paper and other items. Cleaning your floor is a surprisingly quick and easy way to ensure that your space looks immediately taken care of.

It is always a good idea to have some sort of carpet or rug on your floor. The carpet or rug will help to preserve hardwood and will absorb sound. If you watch television in your living room and have other family members in the house, the carpet will help to keep the sound in the living room so that others are not disturbed.

Be sure to purchase carpet pads for any carpet so that it does not slide around and serve as a hazard in your space. For a change, choose carpets colors and patterns that you would not normally select. Carpets are relatively inexpensive, but can change the entire outlook of a room quickly.

The Walls
Your walls should reflect your personality. Decorating the walls can be expensive, as most art that is good costs money. If you are on a budget, purchase nicely framed prints from a local discount store. Neutral prints will blend into your walls and can add rather than detract from the scene. Blank walls are generally to be avoided – as they will tend to truly stand out and look unfinished.

Tabletops
Tabletops should be kept clean and moderately decorated. Candles, books and other accessories should be placed symmetrically and pleasing. Do not overwhelm the tables, but rather, leave plenty of space for your coffee mugs and for dusting. The coffee table should always be within reach of the sofa are large seating area. The cleaner you keep your tabletops, the easier they will be to clean and maintain.
