Ready for the Carefree Days of Summer

I am counting down the days…three and a half more of school. And then this school year is officially over with.

Sometimes I wonder if I get more excited about the end of school than my children. There are so many things I won’t miss for the next three months.

Take last Friday. I spent 20 minutes trying to wake up one of my children. When we were finally down to the wire, my voice was now in stereo and it was no more Mr. Nice Guy.

So that child put everyone else behind in getting ready. I had a busy day ahead of me and needed to get moving.

As if that wasn’t enough to start the day off bad, we are just a few blocks from school and the same child who set us behind suddenly realized they left an important piece of paper at home.

Now I was really mad.

Believe me, there was no way I would have gone all the way back home to get it except this was a group project. I couldn’t let two other students suffer because of it.

So I won’t miss the struggle to wake kids up.

I won’t miss important school papers being forgotten.

I won’t miss making lunches.

I won’t miss having to quick run to the store for markers, paper, notebooks or whatever else a child suddenly remembers they need.

I won’t miss trying to scrape up money from around the house for a fieldtrip I am told about last minute.

I won’t miss getting up so early.

Now I get to enjoy the carefree days of summer just as much as my children. However, I give it a month and I will probably be ready for school to begin again.

Isn’t that just like us? We hardly get a chance to enjoy one season and we are ready for the next.

Are you looking forward to school ending?
