Frugal and Natural Home Remedies

salt I love natural home remedies for everything from coming down with a cold to stomach cramps. These natural remedies can be pretty inexpensive, too. The next time you need to heal, grab the solution right from your own pantry. Chances are that you already have everything that you need on hand.

Starting a Cold

Who doesn’t dread that classic tickle in your throat, the swollen feeling that tells you that you are about to come down with a cold? To sooth inflamed tissues, loosen mucus before it takes hold and flush out irritants or bacteria that can make you sick, use salt water. Gargle with salt water three times a day, using 1/2 teaspoon per eight-ounce glass of warm water.

There is strong science behind this remedy. A recent study showed that taking this approach reduced respiratory infections by as much as 40 percent.

Stomach Cramps

Nature has give us a few different remedies to relieve stomach ailments. Cramps are particularly nasty. To reduce stomach cramps, drink some chamomile tea at least once a day. There is a chemical compound in chamomile called glycine. Glycine has ben showed to reduce contractions in the lower intestine to reduce the cramps.

Make sure to sip the tea slowly for the best effectiveness.

Chapped Lips

If you have chapped lips, forget the store bought waxy stuff that contains chemicals. Instead, use honey. Honey has antibacterial and wound-healing properties. It will help cure those chapped lips. Just resist the urge to lick the honey off, or you won’t get anywhere in your cure.

To use this remedy, wet your lips with lukewarm water, and then apply a thin layer of honey to your lips. Allow it to sit for at least 15 minutes. To remove the honey, gently wipe with a cotton swab dipped in warm water.
