Who says you have to break a sweat crafting an elaborate scrapbook layout design for Dad? This Father’s Day you can give your favorite guy a touching gift from the heart that he will cherish forever by using just a few simple scrapbooking techniques.
One of the most precious page designs incorporates photos and poems. If you have the time and energy, you could sit down and pen an original prose detailing the reasons your Dad is so special to you. However, don’t ditch the idea if you lack inspiration or you simply don’t think you have what it takes to write out your innermost thoughts. Fortunately, there are a slew of resources available online. Major scrapbook-related websites, such as ScrapbookScrapbook.com and Scrapbooking.com feature precious poems that are perfect for Dad’s Dad memory book layouts.
Last year, my sister-in-law surfed the World Wide Web and found the following poem to feature on a heartfelt layout she crafted for my brother:
A WONDERFUL DAD
When I married that wonderful husband of mine,
there were some things I knew from the start.
I knew he was gentle and thoughtful and wise,
I knew that he had a big heart…
But I didn’t know all the things I know now,
all the tricks that he had up his sleeve.
All the toys he could fix, all the swings he could push,
all the ways he could make make-believe.
Now the more we’re together,
the more I can see just what very good fortune I’ve had…
When I married that wonderful husband of mine,
I sure married a wonderful dad!
My sister-in-law printed the poem on plain scrapbook paper and layered it over patterned paper to make the words pop on the page. Next, she created a photo collage of my brother and my nephew which framed the poem, and then added very small embellishments that wouldn’t overwhelm the already busy design. If you don’t want to go through the trouble of piecing together an entire collage, you could enlarge a single photo, place it near the poem and have your child add his handprints to the page with archival-safe paint.
