I’m feeling the need for some sun here in the Pacific Northwest. Next week is the summer solstice, so perhaps if I celebrate that, summer will enter with a bang? One can only hope.
Like many of you, I have been lurking and pinning on Pinterest. I’ve been collecting simple summer crafts and decorating ideas to brighten our home. When it comes to crafts, I go dead simple. I’m not a strenuous crafter by any means! Here are a few of the highlights that I’ve discovered.
Centerpieces: creating vases full of fruit. If you’re having a summer party for the Fourth of July or for a summer weekend, slice oranges and lemons and place them into a tall glass vase. Instant centerpiece!
I love sun printed fabrics. Use the power of the sun to create images on fabric pillows, throws and more. Choose some of the pretty leaves from your garden plants and place them on the fabric, then leave it in the sun. You’ll get beautiful botanical prints directly from the garden!
How about a summer outdoor room? Put up a temporary tent, or decorate a deck with flowing fabrics that soften and brighten your outdoor living space. This works well only if you’re in an area that doesn’t get a lot of rain!
Bring summer into your home with garlands and baskets that feature the joys of summer. We have a nature table that changes with the seasons. Summer’s a time to put out shells, colorful bottles that feature cut flowers, and some fresh items from your garden. Put these into baskets, garlands, and wreaths!
My favorite Pinterest find that I don’t dare create? A door wreath made out of flip flops! This would be great for a summer cabin.
What are your favorite ways to celebrate summer?
