I’ve been scrapbooking for more than a decade, and as I assess my memory book-making skills, I’ve come to the conclusion that many of the lessons I’ve learned over the years have come from making mistakes. For example, if you live in Hawaii or another warm climate, you need to be extra careful about where you store your scrapbook stickers. Exposure to direct sunlight, heat, humidity and salt air can ruin stickers, regardless of whether or not you keep them in their original packaging.
Other lessons I’ve learned the hard way is that paper products should be stored away from moisture, and that plastic Ziploc bags may seem like an ideal storage place for stickers; however, if you have even a tiny bit of water or moisture in the bag before you file it away, there is a good chance mold will be found around the edges the next time you want to use them.
Another important lesson: If you have young children who enjoy poking around in your crafting space, it’s a good idea to keep colorful stickers, stamps and die cuts up and away from curious little hands. Also, if you are planning to install hooks and metal buckets to hold small tools like paper punches and scissors, be sure you situate them at level that children can’t easily reach them.
Finally, when it comes to scrapbooking, don’t make the mistake of being intimidated by the cost of the hobby. Stroll through a scrapbooking supply shop and you may be convinced that you can’t afford to create memory albums without breaking the bank. Fortunately, there are a slew of ways you can craft scrapbooks for free. Plus, once you get the hang of scrapbooking you will realize that you don’t necessarily need all the latest and greatest scrapbooking tools and gadgets available on the market.
