Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day!

As a child I begged my mother to read the Alexander books to me, now my little Logan asks for them the same way I did. As a child I remember having days like poor little Alexander, when it seemed like every little thing went wrong. As an adult it seems like those days happen more often. Today happens to be one of those days.

As a single mom it is hard to carry the weight of the world around on your shoulders. Your children depend on you for so many things. You don’t have anyone else there to pick up the slack. If you don’t do it, then it simply doesn’t get done. It is the sad reality of single parenting. It’s not easy, but you do it, because you love your children and you want the best for them.

There are days when the stress is unbelievably overwhelming. Many of you know of my recent car troubles. Funny how they seemed to all start as soon as I got divorced and no longer had the help of my husband. I have been lucky enough to have a father who would drop anything to come to my rescue when such things happen. What a blessing to be able to rely on him in my times of need! Unfortunately, his knowledge of cars only goes so far and we had to take it in to a mechanic to get a diagnosis. On a car that is as old as I am, I can only imagine all of the things that are wrong with it, but as a single mother I don’t have the funds lying around to get a newer car, and with a car that old it’s hard to justify putting a whole lot of money into it.

It’s hard to handle days like this, especially as a single mother with limited resources. I’ve been blessed to have the support of my family through the many “terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days,” but I can’t help but wonder how much easier days like this would be if I had a husband by my side to go through them with me.
