With our trip to Connecticut just two days away, I am getting really excited about attending the family reunion for my mother – in – law’s family. I love meeting new people, and there will be plenty of unfamiliar faces there for me to become acquainted with. There will also be people there that I have met, and whose company I enjoy.
I am also excited about the fact that there will be plenty of other children there for Dylan to meet. He may not understand the details of how all of the people that we meet are connected, but he will definitely have fun. Blake probably won’t remember much of anything, as he is just four months old. People love babies, though, and I am very excited to share him with our extended family.
My husband’s cousin has put a lot of effort into organizing everything, and I’m sure that her efforts will result in an event that is fun for everyone. I have not heard anything about any genealogy – type activities that might transpire there, but I do know that one of my husband’s uncles is an avid genealogist so I am sure to hear at least a little about the history of the family. If I could find out just one thing during this family event, I would want to learn about my mother – in – law’s mother. Her maiden name was Blake, and this reunion is a gathering of people related to her. We named our youngest son Blake, in honor of her yet I don’t know that much about her.
As far as preparing myself and my family for the trip, it is a fairly simple affair. All that I have to do is bake up some cookies tomorrow or the next day, pack up a very well stocked diaper bag with everything that the boys will need for the day, and program the address of the hostess’s house into our GPS. I also plan to use my smartphone quite a bit at the event – it takes beautiful pictures, and I can add Facebook friends instantly. I can also use the Evernote app to jot down bits and pieces of family history information for future reference. After the event, I can easily and quickly upload the photos to Facebook or email them to anyone who wants them.
