Extend the life of common household consumables, from laundry detergent to cleaning wipes with my best use it up ideas. You’ll save more, spend less and have fewer trips to the grocery store.
Cleaning Wipes/Baby Wipes
It is inevitable that once you use that last wipe up, you still have a nice little pile of cleaning solution left in the container. Take advantage of the extra cleaner to get another five or six wipes, more cleaning than you expected. Simply detach a few paper towels and put them in the solution where they will soak it up and be as useful as the regular clothes. For baby wipes, choose a soft paper towel, such as Viva, or use a thin washcloth in place of the paper towels.
Shampoo, Conditioner, Liquid Laundry Detergent, Liquid Fabric Softener
You can often get another few uses out of the above mentioned items by first turning them upside down to rest on their caps when they aren’t being used. Gravity means that all of the liquid that normally clings to the sides of the containers will collect in the cap, giving you another use or two. When that technique has used up all that it can, simply add water to the container, replace the cap and shake. Pour the whole thing in the washer or on your head (depending on the item of course!) for one more use.
Liquid Hand Soap
If your liquid hand soap has a pump, unscrew the pump from the container. Next, run your hand along the outside edge of the straw part of the pump. You’ll gather more than enough soap for a few more hand washings this way. Of course, you can also skip this step and refill the container from a bulk one instead.
Baking Soda/Baking Powder
It is hard to get that last little bit out of the standard baking supply containers because they usually have a lip on them that prevents the last bits from pouring out. To get every last bit of volume from the canisters, use a baby spoon to gather it up. It will maneuver into the edges for easy scooping.
