It has become common for genealogy websites to team up with, or acquire, other genealogy websites. Sometimes the partnership keeps both entities intact and separate. Recently, MyHeritage has partnered with 1000memories. This will make it easier for genealogists to keep track of family photos with an app called ShoeBox.
MyHeritage is a genealogy website that was started in 2005. It is based in a village called Bnei Atarot, which is located near Tel Aviv, Israel. Genealogists can get a Basic subscription for free. There are also Premium and PremiumPlus subscriptions.
The Basic plan gives you a family tree size that maxes out at 250 individuals, 250 MB of storage, and access to the Basic level of the Smart Matching system. It also includes auto tagging, and access to the basic version of the Family Tree Builder.
The Premium plan gives you a family tree size that maxes out at 2,500 individuals, 500 MB of storage space, and enhanced Smart Matching. You still get the auto tagging. You also get priority support, an enhanced version of the Family Tree Builder, and Timeline. This will cost $6.25 per month.
The PremiumPlus gives you unlimited family tree size, unlimited storage space, and enhanced Smart Matching. You get auto tagging, priority support, and the enhanced Family Tree Builder. You get Timeline and Timebook. This will cost $9.95 per month.
MyHeritage has partnered with a company called 1000memories. This company makes a genealogy app called ShoeBox. The app is free for you to download, and it is compatible with iOS and Android.
The app lets you use the camera on your smartphone as if it were a scanner. You can scan all those old family photos that have been sitting in boxes for years! The app can do automatic edge detection, and it includes perspective correction technology. Those features will help genealogists to end up with beautifully scanned photos.
The photos you scan will automatically be uploaded onto your free account at 1000memories.com. You can choose to make the photos public or private. Later, the photos will be transferred to your MyHeritage site. Genealogists who already have a MyHeritage account will be receiving email that contains instructions on how to get the specialized version of the ShoeBox app that will coordinate with the MyHeritage website.
