On September 23rd, another Utah temple will be dedicated. The Brigham City temple. For that day, church services will be cancelled in Utah and surrounding areas so that members ages 8 and up can attend a broadcast of the temple dedication. As we were listening to this announcement in church on Sunday, my husband said to me that we should make it a priority to take our children to the open house before the dedication. I loved this idea.
Our children are little, and will not be able to attend the temple for some time. They have never seen the inside of the temple. But, it will be a beautiful experience to get to take them to the temple and let them tour it before it is dedicated. This temple is open to the public from now until the dedication on September 23rd.
Have you ever wondered what the inside of a mormon temple looks like? Well, you can find pictures online, I’m sure, but there is nothing like stepping into one of these beautiful buildings first-hand and seeing and feeling the beauty that surrounds you. Temples are truly a beautiful place, but to members of the church, they are also a holy place.
While, many may believe that our church is full of secrecy because only members holding current temple recommends can enter temples once they are dedicated, the truth is, that we consider temples to be sacred, not secret. But, this open house is an opportunity for anyone, whether mormon or not, to see and feel what the inside of a temple is like.
I am excited to take my children. I’m sure they will marvel at the beauty as well. I hope they will feel a special spirit there. I hope they will strive to one day enter into the temple themselves when they are older and take part in the blessings that come along with temple attendance.
