The first day of school brings out the inner paparazzo in nearly every parent. Moms and dads often try to capture every moment of their child’s return to the classroom. That goes double for parents documenting their son or daughter’s very first day of kindergarten.
Depending on how snap happy you are, you could be sorting through hundreds of images at the end of the day. Be careful when sifting through the photos, as you don’t want to delete a picture that could be used later. Once you’ve selected your best shots, showcase them in a scrapbook along with records of your child’s academic, physical and emotional growth.
One idea for a back-to-school page design includes photos you snapped on the first day of class, plus a copy of your child’s official school picture. To spice up the layout, scan your child’s class photo on your computer. You can then create special background paper connecting small versions of the class picture, so the image runs across the page. Depending on how many embellishments and other pictures you plan to place on the page, you could add a talking bubble above a handful of your child’s class photos with a whimsical school-related quote.
Another option is to leave the scrapbooking to your kids. Allow your son or daughter to exercise his creative muscle by designing his or her own school-themed memory album. For younger kids, it’s best to use a mini album, rather than a traditional 12×12 version. On one of the pages, mat a 4×6 photo taken of your child on the first day of school, and then embellish it with letter stickers. Your child could spell out his name with the stickers or any other word that enhances the back-to-school theme. Next, have your child use a ruler and a fine tip pen to make lines on the page. He can then write a special message or simply trace his hand in an open space and draw a photo of his favorite part of the first day of school.
