You Are Stronger Than You Seem

I was recently watching Winnie the Pooh with my four year old. It seems that all the best quotes I find are in these little children’s shows. As Christopher Robin is preparing to go to school the next day he tells his dear friend Winnie the Pooh that as long as he remembers this little phrase everything will be just fine. He says, “You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think.” Like most of us, Winnie the Pooh quickly forgets the importance of this, and goes on his way until he is forced to find out for himself that he truly is each of those
things.

So often after a divorce we lose sight of who we are. We become so consumed in the emotion of everything that we forget how strong we really are. Whether you were the one that wanted the divorce or not, it takes great courage to face the consequences of that decision. It is a whole new world, and finding your way along that path can be frightening at times. There is no one there to tell you what to do or where to turn. You won’t always know what is the right thing to do. You won’t always know what is the right thing to say. But remember, you are smarter than you think.

Divorce isn’t easy. What is right for one person, may not be right for another. Remember that each person is different, each situation unique in its own way, and ultimately you are the only one that can decide what is right for you. But if you remember the simple words of Christopher Robin, you will get through it. You are braver than you believe, you are stronger than you seem, and you are smarter than you think.
