A friend of mine told me about a girl that I knew nothing about the other day, but it really impacted me, and I’ve been thinking about her ever since. I haven’t read her book, or been a long-time reader of her blog like I’m sure many people have, but I am impressed by her selflessness. If the whole world could have her attitude and obvious trust in God in all things, then the world would definitely be a better place. Her blog is here.
She is 23 years old. And, she has adopted 13 Ugandan girls.
Yes, it blew my mind, too.
I’m in the process of reading her blog, but it just got me thinking a lot about love, charity, and sacrifice. I read a blog post of hers about the things that she “misses” now that she is a Mom, living in Uganda. It seems she is OK with her life there because she trusts the Lord and knows that she is doing His will. She is a strong Christian. You can see it in every post.
I just can’t help but think about how often we feel a stirring in our hearts to do something more, serve more, change, or whatever He is trying to tell us, and we push it away. Or, we think we can do it later. This girl’s first trip to Uganda was at the age of 18 and it changed her life forever because she listened to what the Lord was telling her to do. I find that amazing.
I know that sometimes I look at the world around me and see that I am so blessed. Sometimes I don’t even give my life a second thought. Just by virtue of where I was born, what kind of family I was born into, and my skin color, I have advantages. Yet, that doesn’t mean that I am any more loved by Heavenly Father than any other human being on this earth. He loves every single one of us. We are His children. We need to show love towards each other. This girl is doing that and I have to say that I am in awe of her. She may not be perfect, but she is trying hard to do His will and help her brothers and sisters on this earth. I love that. When I think of her, one thing comes to mind. And, that is charity. The pure love of Christ.
