Fall is in full swing in our neck of the woods. Autumn’s amazing palette of yellow, red and orange is on display, and the best part—-it’s free. Free to look at and, in most cases, free to take home and turn into phenomenal fall-themed decorations.
All you need to do is get out and explore the beauty Mother Nature has to offer. While you are soaking in the change of scenery, consider collecting a few leaves, nuts, berries, and branches to fall-ify your home.
Some simple and affordable projects include:
LEAF STAMPS
Stamping is an inexpensive and fun way to give plain table linens a personal touch. Use the leaves from trees in your backyard to make this seasonal stamp.
Materials:
Leaves
Fabric paint
Paintbrush
Paper plate
Plain table linens or napkins in a light color, such as cream or beige
Directions:
Collect a variety of leaves with prominent veins.
Pour paint onto paper plate.
Apply an even coat of paint to surface of the leaf.
Gently press the leaf onto the cloth.
Gently run your hand over the surface to make sure the entire leaf has made an impression on the cloth. Avoid wiggling the leaf, as this will result in a blurred image.
Carefully peel the leaf back to reveal your stamped image.
Repeat as necessary to complete your leaf design.
DISC WREATH
This project is a great way to recycle unwanted or scratched CDs or DVDs.
Materials:
12 CDs or DVDs
Wrapping paper in coordinating fall colors
Mod Podge
Foam paint brush
Hot glue gun
Ribbon
Leaves, small branches, berries or other natural fall-themed products treated with acrylic spray
Directions:
Spray leaves and berries with an even coat of acrylic sealant and allow to dry thoroughly.
Cover the CDs or DVDs with wrapping paper.
Apply a coat of Mod Podge to each disc to seal and protect it.
When the discs are dry, arrange them into a wreath shape.
Glue the discs together with a hot glue gun.
Tie the ribbon into a bow and glue it to the bottom of the wreath.
Embellish the wreath by gluing on leaves, branches and berries.
Add a hanger to the back of the wreath and display on a door or wall.
