Some days are just hard. When you are going through a divorce it seems most days are that way, at least for a little while. I’ve found that even after almost two years many days are still difficult. It’s easy to feel sorry for yourself when you are in the midst of trials. You look up at the sky and wonder, why is this happening to me? What did I do to deserve this? The truth is we all have trials. They are meant to make us strong.
When you find yourself feeling down and wondering how you are going to make it one more day, turn your thoughts to the simple things in life that make you smile. They don’t have to be big. They don’t have to mean something to anyone else; the important thing is that they have meaning to you.
As silly as it sounds my happy moment tonight was sitting with my son, watching his little baby frog swim playfully all over his little tank. For most people this is a seemingly small event. There is nothing really so special about watching a frog swim around in the water, but for me it was a magical moment, if only to see the joy and wonder in my son’s eyes as he watched his little friend play.
We all have things to be happy about, even when things aren’t going quite how we expected them too. There is joy all around us if we only take the time to find it. It may be something as simple as watching the colorful leaves fall from the tree on your way to work. It may be something as wonderful as seeing your child run toward you after you’ve had a long day. Or it may be something as simple as watching a frog swim gracefully across his tank. Whatever it may be, take the time to enjoy it. Life is meant to have joy.
