I’m waiting for TLC’s Extreme Couponing to take on the world of scrapbooking.
With places like Michaels and Hobby Lobby constantly offering coupons on their respective websites for as much as 40 to 50 percent off store items–including scrapbooking supplies–you’d think there would be a super saver episode in the works.
Then again, with there being so many opportunities to obtain free materials online, coupon cutting is not really needed to save big when creating memory albums. Sites such as Free Digital Scrapbooking feature thousands of scrapbooking elements to crafters at no charge. I am especially partial to their collection of free frames and photo mats which can be downloaded with ease, minus hefty fees or unexpected surcharges. Right now, the site is filled with Halloween-themed items, including an adorable pumpkin-shaped frame with a faux stitching effect.
Other sites, such as See Jane Scrapbook and OScraps also offer free digital scrapbooking supplies. The former is a boutique-like site which features truly unique designs, such as whimsical frames with scalloped edges, for free. Meanwhile, OScraps provides visitors with a plethora of free digital scrapbooking supplies ranging from stickers to frames.
If you are not a fan of digital scrapbooking, you can still save a bundle by printing out some of the freebies and using them to create traditional page designs. Another option for frugal scrappers is to combine the free supplies you can obtain online with extra materials you may have around your home. For example, rather than making a special trip to your craft store and spending extra money for decorated frames, consider punching squares from scraps of coordinating patterned paper, and then arrange the squares to make a frame to display a special picture. Another inexpensive frame option is to layer die cut tags around a favorite image. You could also use leftover stickers to craft a makeshift frame around a prized photo.
