Top 10 Fitness Trends for 2013

So what’s on the horizon for 2013 when it comes to fitness trends? A recent survey has come up with predictions for what those will be. And you might be surprised to learn that most of these are pretty basic.

In general, “body weight” exercises are going to be the big thing. These are your typical physical activities, such as pushups or pull-ups, which can shed pounds and tone muscle…yet, there is little cost involved.

With the economy continuing to struggle, this is going to be very appealing to fitness enthusiasts and those who will be ready to make changes come the New Year. So with that, let’s take a look at the top ten fitness trends predicted for 2013.

#1 – job market for certified, educated, trained fitness professionals is expected to increase

#2 – strength training (weight training)

#3 – body-weight training (planks, squats, pull-ups, pushups)

#4 – exercise programs focused on childhood obesity

#5 – exercise and diet plans with a focus on weight loss

#6 – fitness programs for older adults

#7 – personal training

#8 – functional fitness (geared toward older adults to help improve coordination, balance and ability to perform daily living activities)

#9 – core training (working midsection with wobble boards and balance balls)

#10 – group personal training – can help save money on training by dividing the costs amongst two to four people

One of the overriding themes for these predicted fitness trends is cost savings. It is a big complaint here in the U.S.

We are told of the importance to eat healthy and exercise. Yet so often the means to do this is expensive. Although more work needs to be done on getting healthy food items at a lower price, there is no excuse for not exercising.

Exercise is free. Sure, you can pay money to join a gym or you can purchase a workout program on a DVD or game system. But you can walk for free. You can do crunches for free. You get the idea.
