Inexpensive Seasonal Embellishments

left

Whether you are getting ready to set your Thanksgiving table, or you are simply looking for ways to bring touches of fall into your living space, the following easy and affordable projects will help you accomplish your goal:

Turkey Candle Holders

Materials:

Small glass containers (baby food jars or small jelly jars work well)

Colored tissue paper

Scissors

Colored construction paper

Glue

Paint brush

Pipe cleaners

Sequins

Glitter

Directions:

Cut the tissue paper into small squares.

Cover the jar with a thin coat of glue, and then randomly place the tissue paper squares on top, overlapping them so none of the glass shows.

Repeat this process until you have at least three layers of tissue paper covering the jar.

Trace your hand or your child’s hand on a piece of the construction paper, and then cut out. These will be the feathers for your turkey. Another option is to cut the construction paper into strips and loop each piece and glue them to the back of the jar to create feathers.

Add glitter and sequins to further embellish the candle holder.

Bend a pipe cleaner in the shape of a turkey head and glue into place.

Add a flameless tea light to the candle holder and it on your buffet or make several and give them out to Thanksgiving guests as favors.

Gratitude Wreath: Trace your child’s hand on colored construction paper, and then cut out. Use this as a template and continue to trace and cut about a dozen more. You will need enough of the handprints to cover the outside ring of a paper plate. Cut out a circle from the center of the paper plate. On each handprint write one thing your family members are grateful for this Thanksgiving. Finally, glue on the handprints to create a gratitude wreath. You could further embellish the wreath with natural items found in your backyard such as leaves, acorns, pine needles or seeds.
