This past weekend, we got a monster snow storm. My kids were all excited to go play in the snow. It just kept falling, and there was plenty of snow right in our backyard to build a snowman and even a little sledding hill. While I love looking at the snow from my warm house, sometimes, the thought of getting the kids all bundled up seems exhausting, and I leave it up to my husband. But, this time, I was anxious to get the baby out in the snow and let him experience his first snowfall since last year he was way too little.
So, we scrambled for clothes that were warm enough. Luckily my son’s snow bib from last year fit the baby. So after a little bit of work, we found enough clothes for him where he would be warm for a short time in the snow. We even had to put on a pair of shoes that were probably 4 sizes too big so that his feet would be covered. Just the process of getting him all ready was a lot of work. But, it was worth it.
To our surprise, he loved the snow. We carried him out at first and he just looked around smiling and pointing at the falling snow flakes. We decided to set him down in the snow, and let him touch it. My husband let him try and eat a little too. He sat there so content and started babbling like crazy. It made me laugh to see him “talking” to the snow. He watched his brother and sister build a snowman, and he sat there content for at least 20 minutes. He tried to crawl a couple of times, but his shoes kept falling off. So, we would put them back on, and sit him back down in the snow to watch the fun.
When I decided he was probably starting to get a little cold, I took him inside and got his layers off. After I got him undressed, and set him down on the floor in his room, he made a bolt for the back door. He started crying because he wanted to go out again! I guess it is time to invest in some good quality snow clothes so that this baby can enjoy the snow all winter long!
