While I was pregnant with my daughter, I wrote a blog about the pregnant women in my family and extended family. The short version of those blogs is that my sister, my husband’s sister-in-law, and I were all pregnant within eight weeks of each other with girls. We had made attempts to get the girls together in the midst of our diverse and busy schedules, but our efforts were thwarted by naps or illness … until today. This playdate was not planned weeks in advance but happened more by happenstance than anything else. My sister needed me to watch her daughter for a bit in the afternoon so that she could run some errands. She and I swap babysitting frequently enough. The day before the sisters daughters’ playdate, I got a phone call from my husband’s sister-in-law. As it turns out her regular sitter was going to be out of town on one of the days that she worked teaching art and she needed someone to watch her daughter on short notice. She did know who else to call on such short notice who would most likely be available. She asked, I said no problem and that the three girls would finally get there playdate because my sister’s daughter was coming over too! While my daughter had met both of her cousins on several occasions, the non related girls had never met and at fourteen months and twelve months they met each other with quizzical reservations. They stood staring at each other for a few minutes until my daughter, showing off her new walking skills fell on them. The three girls who are all right around one year old, give or take four to eight weeks, fell into each others lap quite literally to begin the trios first playdate …
