Save on Seasonal Adventures

Who says you have to be surrounded by snow and cold in order to get into the holiday spirit?

My idea of a dream winter getaway is a long stretch of white sand beach, a cobalt blue sky, warm sunshine and gentle trade winds. The only ice I want to see are the cubes in my tropical libation.

Fortunately, there are a slew of winter escapes that offer a temperate climate without compromising on the holiday activities. One of the best places to take in spectacular seasonal sights and sounds is sunny San Diego. The popular Southern California city hosts dozens of festive holiday events for free. Make your countdown to Christmas merry and bright by visiting the following:

SoNo Park Holiday Fest: On December 2nd, gather the clan and head to San Diego’s South Park and North Park districts for a holiday treat you won’t soon forget. The family-friendly SoNo Park Holiday Fest features free live music, kids’ activities, gourmet food trucks, holiday gift vendors and plenty of festive fun in the great outdoors.

Mt. Soledad: Take in the eye-popping holiday splendor by driving to the top of Mt. Soledad in La Jolla. The panoramic view of the city glittering in its blinged out glory is a sight to behold. What’s more, on the way up the mountain you will get the chance to view all the beautifully decorated homes in the exclusive community.

California Center for the Arts Holiday Tree Lighting: On December 1st, Escondido turns into a winter wonderland complete with live seasonal music courtesy of Victorian carolers, a visit from Santa, free art activities and treats, a spectacular light show, plus, real snow. A week later, the city celebrates “A California Christmas” during its 62nd Annual Christmas Parade.

Christmas in the Park: Poway is rolling out the red carpet for Santa Claus and all of his elves on December 8th. You and your family can enjoy a tree lighting ceremony, photos with St. Nick, train rides, live music, theatre performances, food, treats, crafts and more.
