First Thanksgiving Part II

On thanksgiving day, my daughter awoke from her nap to find herself in an unfamiliar house with lots of unfamiliar faces all around her. She was not a fan of this particular situation. Initially when anyone got too close to her she, she would start bawling and would find the fastest route back to me. Realizing that she was not going to put up with me being in a different room, I took up residence on the living room floor while she played with some toys and her cousin (she was fine with the other baby everyone else was terrifying). Since everyone had heard that my daughter was now a pretty proficient walking, they were all watching to see her walk. She was not ready to give anyone a show; she continued to sit and play with toys on the floor. However, when I made my way towards the kitchen, she quickly stood up and toddled after me. That is when I heard gasps and “aws” from the extended family members. As time for thanksgiving dinner drew near, everyone gathered in the kitchen for “grace” and buffet style serving. Once I had filled plates for my husband, my son, and myself, I sat down with my daughter and offered her her first official taste of “Thanksgiving.” She took one small taste of sweet potato, mulled it around in her mouth, and spat it out. From there on she wanted nothing to do with thanksgiving dinner! My daughter found a rubber handled spoon to play with instead. After the meal she let me know that she wanted a nursing session in lieu of the turkey and potatoes. After some milk, she was ready to play and was finally starting to get comfortable with her surroundings and the people. That is when the real show began. She starting walking all over the house: up and down the hallway, all around the kitchen, down into the living room, and out onto the screened in porch. Occasionally someone would try to pick her up and she would look at them for a few seconds and the start crying again. As long as she was left alone, she did great and to be perfectly honest she is more entertaining to watch than to hold anyway!
