Winter is a great time to have some frugal fun. Reduce your entertainment budget with the following ideas.
Fun in the Snow
If you are lucky enough to have snow in your region this winter, then you can have a ton of free fun such as:
Putting water and food coloring into spray bottles, then creating snow art. Will you create the Mona Lisa or Bart Simpson?
Building a snowman or two. Have a family contest for the biggest, most creative or funniest creation. You can also gift someone a homemade snowman kit. Just provide an old hat, charcoal briquettes, a carrot nose and anything else you would like to add.
Sledding.
Snowball fights of course. Don’t forget the snow forts.
Sitting by the window with a blanket and watching the snow gently fall.
Oh The Lights
Admiring the Christmas lights can be a real event. Load up on the hot chocolate, put on the PJs and take a drive through the neighborhood to watch the displays. Did you know that you can buy inexpensive special glasses that turn ordinary Christmas lights into fun shapes such as snowmen, bells, and even angels? The glasses sell for $1-3.
Alternatively, head to a nearby city, where the displays tend to be larger and closer together for even more fun.
A Good Roaring Fire
The comfort of a good roaring fire can be very enjoyable, whether you have a built-in fireplace, a wood stove or an outdoor campfire. Not only is a classic winter fire cheery, warm and festive, but it can be relaxing as well.
Warm Drinks
In the winter enjoy all sorts of warm drinks, such as apple cider or hot chocolate with a candy cane as a stirrer. The warm drinks keep away the chill and are a pleasure to be best enjoyed in the winter.
