We already talked about the fact that small children like to help around the house. In fact, it makes them feel important and included. Unfortunately, there are times when it’s easier to do the work yourself than it is to try to teach or help your little one do tackle a project.
Since I’ve been dealing with these same issues, I decided to make a list of projects little ones can handle without much supervision. I already mentioned folding towels and setting the table, but here are a few more options:
Washing Cabinets
This is a great job for little people. They are the perfect height. Give your child a damp sponge and ask him or her to wipe down your kitchen cabinets. If your child does well and wants another task to work on, he or she can wipe down the lower half of the fridge or wipe the dishwasher. You can always touch up later.
Putting Away Laundry
Ask your little one to carry clothing to each family member’s room. Sort folded clothing into small piles that your child can carry easily. More piles will also keep your child busy longer. If your child is too young to figure out where clothing should be put away, simply ask him or her to place folded clothes on each person’s bed. If clothing proves too difficult, let your child put away towels and linens.
Tidying Up
Hand your child a grocery bag and ask him or her to go through each room and pick up any paper scraps or other trash and throw it into the bag. Next, ask your child to take shoes or other personal items to the owner’s room. If your son or daughter has left things lying about, ask your child to put away his or her things as well.
Your youngster will be proud of helping and you will have fewer tasks to complete. Even if these things aren’t done perfectly, it will make a difference.
