Kurt Vogel Russell was born on March 17, 1951, in Springfield, Massachusetts. His father, Bing Russell, is a former baseball player, who played the deputy sheriff on the television series, “Bonanza” for six years. Kurt was a child star, landing a ten-year contract with Walt Disney in 1960 and in 1963, a part in an Elvis Presley movie, “It Happened at the World’s Fair.” He graduated from Thousand Oaks High School along with Michael Richards of “Seinfeld” fame. Richards was said to have voted Kurt the “best looking in the class.”
Although he was well on his way to establishing a movie career when his ten year stint with Disney ended, Kurt spent the early part of the 1970s playing minor league baseball. He played second base for the California Angels until a torn shoulder muscle forced his early retirement from the game in 1973.
The year 1979 marked his return to the silver screen with a classic performance as Elvis Presley in an ABC television movie directed by John Carpenter. He also married in that year to Season Hubley, and they share a son named Boston. They divorced in 1984. During the 1980s, Kurt appeared in a string of both well-received films and a number of losers. His best performances were in “Used Cars” (1980), “Escape From New York” (1981), “The Thing” (1982) and “Silkwood” (1984)
He met Goldie Hawn on the set of “Swing Shift” shortly after his divorce and the two have lived together ever since. They share a son, Wyatt. In 2003, along with Goldie Hawn, stepdaughter Kate Hudson and stepson, Oliver Hudson, Russell started the Cosmic Entertainment Company. Kurt and his family live on a ranch outside of Aspen, Colorado. He continues to work regularly much to the delight of his many, many fans.
