Infamous Hotel Rooms – Part 2

Are you planning to travel this summer and still looking for an unusual place to stay? Consider some of one of these infamous hotel rooms: Room 217 – The Stanley Hotel, Estes Park, CO The Stanley Hotel was built in 1909 and is elegant and historic but apparently Stephen King saw more than that when he stayed in room 217. It is said that The Stanley Hotel was his inspiration for his thriller The Shining, although none of the movie was actually filmed here. Still, legend has it that the 138-room hotel is haunted, so maybe that provided inspiration for … Continue reading

When Two Hit Wonders Attack – Part 1

We all know about the sad legacy of a one hit wonder – a singer or band that has one hit then that is it. You would think if you had one hit, the others would come easily, but that isn’t so. What is worse that being a one hit wonder? How about being a two hit wonder? That’s right, here is a brief list of people who had one hit, then another, then faded into obscurity. Kim Wilde – “Kids in America” and “You Keep Me Hangin’ On” It was a long haul between Kim’s first hit “Kid’s in … Continue reading

Celebrity Breakdowns Part 1

While we are all a bit astonished by Britney’s very public breakdown, you must remember that breakdowns are nothing new to celebrities. I am sure we all have breakdowns of some type when stress gets to us, but celebrities are constantly under watch, so their breakdowns are usually preserved for posterity. Here are a few meltdowns you may have forgotten about in the wake of Britney’s: Robert Downey Jr. Robert seems to be well on the road to recovery now, but there was a time when he seemed like a hopeless cause. In 1996, he was arrested for wandering into … Continue reading

Banned from Saturday Night Live – Part III

Who would have thought so many people and musical acts had been banned from appearing again on Saturday Night Live, it would take up three blogs? But, the most notorious banned is still to come! Sinead O’Connor Few people who were watching the night of October 3, 1992 can forgot the image of Sinead O’Connor saying “Fight the real enemy!” while ripping a photo of Pope John Paul II in half. The “applause” cue was cut off and the audience just sat silent in amazement. NBC received many complaints about this episode within minutes. Host Tim Robbins was raised Catholic … Continue reading

5 Notorious Moments of Saturday Night Live

I’ve been blogging about people banned from ever appearing on Saturday Night Live again, but in this blog, I will talk about some of the most notorious moments in this long running (31 years!) comedy show. 5. Chevy Chase’s Fall In the season premiere of 1976, Chevy Chase, playing then President Gerald Ford, took a pratfall into a podium. Unfortunately for Chevy, the podium wasn’t padded and he missed the next two episodes due to injuries. 4. John Belushi Hits Buck Henry with a Sword In one of his famous Samurai skits, John Belushi accidentally gashed Buck Henry’s forehead with … Continue reading

Banned from Saturday Night Live – Part II

Yesterday, I was listing guest hosts and musical acts banned from Saturday Night Live. Some of the performances are hard to forget and some people, you may not even remember ever being on Saturday Night Live. Here’s more of the list: Fear The band Fear was a favorite of show regular John Belushi, so he pushed for them to appear as a musical act. Unfortunately, they played offensive songs, used obscene language, and the slam dancers they bused in destroyed the set. Needless to say, they were never invited back. Robert Blake You may remember Robert Blake from the murder … Continue reading

Banned from Saturday Night Live – Part I

Saturday Night Live just turned 31 on October 11th of this year. It still looks pretty good to me, despite losing several regular cast members last season. Saturday Night Live has been, over the years, the best and worst comedy ride ever. There have been absolutely brilliant comedians with a few mediocre at best thrown in from time to time. I began watching SNL in 1975, even though I was only 12 years old. It seemed to me like the adult thing to do and as a preteen, I longed to be an adult. Years later, I am still at … Continue reading

Sinead O’Connor Ends Marriage

What do you do if you are Kim Kardashian and people are making fun of you for ending your marriage after only 72 days? You wait for another celeb to take the pressure off you. That person, in this particular case, is Sinead O’Connor. O’Connor hit the big time in 1990 with the Prince pinned hit “Nothing Compares 2 U.” But, her U.S fame was short lived. Later that year, O’Connor threatened to boycott her own concert if the U.S. national anthem was played before the concert. Frank Sinatra threatened her with physical violence and off she was on her … Continue reading

Jeff Conaway Dead at 60

This is one of those blogs that I just knew I’d be writing soon. Jeff Conaway, who was best known as playing Bobby Wheeler on “Taxi” and Kenickie in Grease, has died at age 60. He went to the hospital on May 11 and was in critical condition for much of his stay. His illness was first attributed to a drug overdose, but later officials said it wasn’t, but his drug use had caused him to wait too long to seek medical help. He was taken off life support last Thursday after slipping into a coma. I think Radar put … Continue reading

Hawaiian Officials Angered Over SNL Skit

I don’t know if you caught last week’s “Saturday Night Live” or not. The host was Dwayne Johnson, no doubt due to this weekend’s release of Race to Witch Mountain plus his hosting the upcoming Kid’s Choice Awards on Nickelodeon. I thought the show was great, but there was one skit that didn’t make several Hawaiian officials too happy. The skit involved Johnson (who is of Polynesian descent on his mom’s side) and SNL’s Fred Armisen as lowly paid entertainers in a Hawaiian hotel restaurant. The two danced around the restaurant, doing the hula, wearing grass skirts, and singing. But, … Continue reading
