Pregnant and in Prison

Have you ever wondered what would happen if a woman was pregnant and had to go to jail for a long time? I would hope none of my readers would ever face such a situation, but it does happen. Unfortunately, most stories do not have good endings. As I poured through dozens of accounts of incarcerated women and their pregnancies, I realized that childbirth is not a time of joy and excitement for many imprisoned women, instead, the experience is tainted with fear and the dread of leaving their babies, possibly forever. In 1994, the Bureau of Justice Statistics reported … Continue reading

Celebrity Love: Jennifer Aniston, Kristin Davis and Tori Spelling

Contrary to popular belief, Tate Donovan and Brad Pitt are not the only guys who have proposed to Jennifer Aniston. In a recent interview with USA Today, the actress claims that she once turned down a romantic marriage proposal in a crowded restaurant in the 1990s. According to the former “Friends” star, the proposal came from an ex-boyfriend while she was working as a waitress at a L.A. restaurant, long before her acting career took off. Aniston tells the paper that she was horrified when her ex arrived at her workplace and got down on one knee – in front … Continue reading

Devo Gets Mad-O at McDonald’s and Lilo’s Mystery Sis

If they could really “Whip It” they would probably choose to do so right at burger giant McDonald’s. Cult classic rockers Devo are furious that fast food chain McDonald’s is using the band’s likeness (or so claims the musical group) in a Happy Meal toy. The 80s hitmakers claim the “American Idol” tribute figure, New Wave Nigel, was based on their famous image, as seen in their popular “Whip It” video. Regarding the McDonald’s brouhaha, Devo bass player Gerald Casale, who came up with the punk rock band’s odd jumpsuited look, told news reporters: We’re in the midst of suing … Continue reading

It could not have been easy growing up as the son of a larger than life character such as Marlon Brando. And now Christian’s name is back in the news. Earlier this week, the 49-year-old Christian was admitted to the intensive care unit of the Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center to be treated for pneumonia. An unidentified friend said Brando’s first child is “not doing very well. He has pneumonia with complications.” Christian was born in 1958, the product of … Continue reading

Cash Concert Canned and “Stanford” Dishes on “Sex”

On January 13, 1968, Johnny Cash performed a legendary concert at the Folsom State Prison. Cash himself was no stranger to run-ins with the law. But, despite his image, Cash was never sentenced to prison. He did go to jail seven times, but only spent one night each stay. However, his Folsom Prison concert helped give him the “outlaw” image and was a breakthrough performance that became a well-liked live album. To make the 40th anniversary of that memorable concert, there was tribute concert planned, but those plans have now been scrapped. Who decided to cancel the concert? Well, that … Continue reading

TYRA’S BAD RAP It’s nice to know that stars are not infallible. Model-turned-talk-show-host Tyra Banks always looks flawless on television, but now the world knows that even a Victoria Secret cover girl can make mistakes. Banks appeared on ABC’s chatfest “The View” a couple of days ago to clear up a nasty rumor that she was “cheap.” Turns out, a New York newspaper recently reported that Banks and music mogul Russell Simmons had “dined and dashed” after chowing down on breakfast at a Big Apple restaurant. The truth of the matter (according to Banks) is that the two stars mistakenly … Continue reading

Co Sleeping with Baby Number One Part III

While I was pregnant with our second child we really tried to transition our son into his own bed. He did not have a problem falling asleep on his own but he needed a warm body next to him to feel safe. First we converted the crib into a toddler bed so that he would have easier access to it and not feel imprisoned. He would not sleep in the toddler bed at night very well and usually ended up in our bed at some point during the night. Knowing that at some point we will convert the crib/toddler bed … Continue reading
