A Big Change

This year I have undergone a massive change. Usually I am first to want to take the Christmas tree down and pack away the decorations. I’ve usually got them packed away by New Year’s Day. But this year I find myself reluctant.

Maybe because it was such a beautiful tree this year, perfectly shaped, just about touching the ceiling and still looking green three weeks after being bought. I have taken photos of just the tree because it was so special. What’s more, the house still smells like Christmas. Our little dog still likes sticking her nose in it. I only have to brush past and that Christmas pine smells fills my nostrils. Even from my study which is separated from the family room by a hall I can still smell the Christmas pine.

Then again, maybe it is because after having all the family here over Christmas, there are so many fun memories tied up with it. I suspect that could well be the case. But the reality is those memories will be there even after the tree has been taken down. They are imprinted on my brain. Of course a few photos will help in years to come too.

The photos I took though were not studied photos of family lined up saying ‘cheese’ but candid shots as people opened presents or played or talked together. They’re the ones that will remind us of the fun times. Now all I’ve got to do is get my husband to take them off the camera and put them into the computer so I can email a few around to family members.

It’ll be interesting too to compare, as some of us took similar shots but from different angles. Other times no-one even noticed the shot was being taken till the flash went off. So even when the tree and the decorations have gone, Christmas and the joys shared are still captured in memory.
