A Celebrity Mom’s Potential Best Seller

Here’s a book I doubt we’ll be seeing on the best-seller’s list. Then again…

It may be a challenge for Lynne Spears to convince others to buy her new parenting book given her (most) famous daughter’s current situation.

Britney’s mom is not lacking for juicy material for her new personal tell-all of raising two famous daughters. However, for whatever reason, Spears is not marketing her new book as such. Rather, the mom to 26-year-old Britney and remarkably “normal” (or perhaps she just appears this way in comparison to her messed up sister) 16-year-old actress Jamie Lynn teamed up with a company that publishes Bibles and Christian books. Which has some insiders speculating that Spears is trying to market her book as an “inspirational” guide to other parents whose children are looking to pursue careers in Hollywood.

Huh? Has Lynn Spears read the tabloids recently?

I doubt I am the only parent out there who would consider Spears a last resort when it comes to looking for advice on raising children in the spotlight.

Still, Spears’s publisher describes the book as “Lynne’s personal story of raising high-profile children while coming from a low-profile Louisiana community.”

So, Lynne Spears is planning to write a book about raising her family in the glare of the media spotlight. Unless a person is looking to score salacious tidbits about her train wreck daughter what would be the impetus to buy a copy? I suppose a parent could get tips on how to drive a child to rehab and get her to stay there… on the second try or how not to anger your child to the point where she gives you the silent treatment for 8 months and tries to paint you as a druggie. Who knows, maybe Spears book will hit the best-sellers list, especially if it is scooped up by parents who are looking for a guide on how to transform a child star to tabloid train wreck.

“Pop Culture Mom: A Real Story of Fame and Family in a Tabloid World” is scheduled to be released on May 11, 2008, which is Mother’s Day. We’ll have to see how happy a day it will be once Ms. Meltdown cracks open a copy.
