A Change of Environment

Change can be good. Change can also be scary. One of the topics that we touch on now and again here in the Single Parents blog is the way our lives are affected perpetually by change. While it is one thing to accept that change is inevitable, it is quite another to actually seek and instigate change on purpose but sometimes that is just what we need to do. One of the areas of our lives where change may be in order is in our environment—our home, work, etc. Changing the way things feel and the environment that surrounds us can be a grand way to move our lives forward and a great way to heal.

It can be easy to just keep the environment the way it is and we do not want to create too much change for our children in times when they have already been through so much. But, as the dust starts to settle and you are working to put your life back in order—you might consider a change in environment too. New curtains, fresh paint, even trying a different style for your home or bedroom can be wonderful ways to change the feel and mood that surrounds you. Of course there are the big environment changes like moving to a new house or neighborhood (and these can be positive ways to move forward to). Listen to your heart and you should be able to sense when it is time for a change. You might even start to feel a tug and yearning for new surroundings and indulging those yearnings is a healthy way to move out of the past and into a new present.

Consider that your children might need a change of environment too. While kids can be really reluctant to change and really fight any changes at first, overall, a fresh new room or a different environment might help children to grow, heal and move forward too.
