A Cool Treat for a Hot Celeb

Forget about the life-size statutes, the park benches with engraved plaques and the namesake streets, avenues and boulevards. The one true way you can tell if you have arrived in Hollywood is when you get your own ice cream flavor.

I certainly would consider it one of life’s highest honors.

Jerry Garcia, Dave Matthews and Phish are among the lucky musicians who have gained the prestigious honor from Ben & Jerry’s and now legendary rocker Sir Elton John is being immortalized in frozen sugar and cream as well.

This Friday you’ll get your first chance to dig into “Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road,” a flavor inspired by the singers first ever concert in Vermont – the home of Ben & Jerry’s.

The flavor is described as “an outrageous symphony of decadent chocolate ice cream, peanut butter cookie dough, butter brickle and white chocolate chunks.”

Company reps say the new flavor was whipped up to coincide with John’s upcoming concert in the “Green Mountain State” and is a take-off on the iconic rocker’s 1970s album and song “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.”

Unfortunately, if you want to see if Ben & Jerry’s newest ice cream tastes as good as John’s songs sound you’ll have to travel to Vermont between July 18 and July 25. That’s when the limited-batch ice cream will be served up in the company’s Vermont scoop shops, with proceeds going to the Elton John AIDS Foundation.

“Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road,” will also be handed out in cups, cones and dishes at John’s sold-out Champlain Valley Expo show Monday.

The Burlington-based ice cream maker, which has already honored late Grateful Dead guitarist Jerry Garcia by concocting “Cherry Garcia” and Vermont-bred jam rockers Phish with “PhishFood” among others says it wanted to toast John because he was finally getting around to perform in the nation’s 14th state.

“It’s hard to cram 50 years of musical history that Elton John brings to the table in one pint,” a spokesman for Ben & Jerry’s told reporters.

Still, the company says it tried its best to capture John’s essence in the frozen treat. The singer reportedly collaborated, and has given his stamp of approval to the ice cream, even though he hasn’t actually tasted it.

Ben & Jerry reps said John requested the chocolate peanut butter combination.

Now they’ll have to wait a few days to see if John likes what designers came up with.

Would you eat it?
