A Crazy Week in Politics

I really do not pay a whole lot of attention to what goes on in politics. I mean, I do pay attention to key elections (such as president), but for the most part, I just do not get into politics. But this week was so crazy – it is hard to not notice what is going on.

First, there was Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez calling President Bush “the devil.” What is up with this guy? And it is not like he said it at home, in his house. No, he said it in front of the United Nations! He went on to call Bush the “spokesman for imperialism” and that he spoke “as if he owned the world.” But his slams didn’t stop with President Bush. He went on to call the United Nations General Assembly “merely a deliberative organ.” This is not the first time he has talked trash about our President. In May, he accused Bush of committing genocide and said he should be imprisoned. I have two words for Mr. Chavez – looney tunes because that is what he is sounding like to me.

Then there was news of Bush’s arch-rival Osama bin Laden. Is he alive? Is he dead? The way he hides out in caves, who would know? Apparently, the French do. An internal document leaked last week that said bin Laden died last month in Pakistan of typhoid, but nobody seems to be able to verify it. Of course, al Qaeda says he is still alive. I hope this does not turn into a Hitler thing, but it seems headed that way. Former President Clinton got his two cents worth in, saying “I got closer to killing him than anybody has gotten since. And if I were still president, we’d have more than 20,000 troops there trying to kill him” talking about the number of troops in Afghanistan.

President Clooney? George is getting more and more involved in politics, but swears he has no political ambitions. Yeah, right George. Read more about it in Michele’s blog.

In other political news, Japan elected their youngest Prime Minister since World War II. Shinzo Abe, age 52, has promised economic reforms and improved relations with China.

See, I told you it was a crazy week in politics!
