I’m confident and comfortable with the fact that every child is different. Each child has different sleep habits, eating habits, and develops at his own rate. Still, I like to hear what other babies and mothers are going through to see how it compares to what my baby and I are experiencing.
For this reason, I’m going to give you a day in the life of my one-year-old. I figure some of you reading this may also have a one-year-old, or a child close to that age. As your child goes through her day, you may be thinking, “Is that normal? Is this something I should worry about? Is anyone else dealing with this?”
Today, I’ll share our morning routine.
Our day begins around 6:00am, when my baby wakes up to nurse. I nurse her until she’s done – about 20 minutes – and we both go back to bed. She sleeps in a crib in her own room, and I sleep in a bed in the room I share with my husband.
At around 8:30, she’s awake and ready to be awake for the day. We head downstairs, and I prepare breakfast. Before we eat, we pray, and she practices folding her hands during the prayer. After we’ve shared our customary bowl of oatmeal, I brush her two teeth, and we go back upstairs to her bedroom.
While she spends some time playing with the toys we keep in her bedroom, I sit in the glider rocker in her room and catch up on my daily Bible study. More often than not, she starts grunting and pushing during this play time. We’ve started potty training her, so I put her on her little potty and let her continue playing with toys while she poops. At about 10:30, she’s ready for a nap. I put her down, wait about 10 minutes to make sure she’s really asleep, then take a shower and get ready for the day. Sometimes she’s awake in 30 minutes, other days she sleeps until noon.
Does this sound similar to mornings with your one-year-old?
