A Fabulous Travel Package For Foodies

If you love to travel and love to eat then I may have the perfect idea for your next vacation. Hilton Hotels has just announced it will be partnering up with the Food Network for a special promotion. Starting this week Hilton properties will be offering a Food Network Travel Package.

Eleven Hilton Hotel properties including the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Honolulu and Cityscape at Hilton San Francisco are giving guests who sign up for the package a four-course tasting menu with wine pairings, specific to each destination, an autographed menu and tote bag containing Food Network goodies.

The tasting menu is designed for two and will be available exclusively to guests who have booked the special travel package in advance. Packages at the Hilton Hawaiian Village start at $459 for the first night, while additional nights go for $249.

Each hotel will offer regional cuisine as part of the tasting menu. For example, on the menu at the Cityscape at Hilton San Francisco, are ahi (tuna) and won ton chips. While visitors to the Hilton Atlanta will dine on piroshkis stuffed with beef tenderloin, Maine lobster and Cornish game hen. Prior to the service, guests will receive a chef’s explanation of each dish, in addition to a visit by a sommelier or wine steward who will visit the table to discuss the wine pairings.

At the Hilton Hawaiian Village, the first course of the Food Network Travel Package tasting menu will include a dish called (appropriately enough) “A Taste of Hawaii.” It features lump crab cake, ahi and Kona kampachi sashimi, roasted beet salad and sugar cane-crusted scallop, paired with Muller Thurgau Eurasia.

The second course includes a Sea Salad with Manoa (a valley on the Hawaiian Island of Oahu) and butter lettuce hearts, avocado, sweet Kamiya papaya, and poached, chilled shrimp with Bali champagne dressing, served with a glass of Euro-Asian Riesling.

The entree features sautéed opakapaka (a local fish) and petite Black Angus filet mignon. The fish is the restaurant’s signature entree, crusted with macadamia nuts and cilantro with kaffir lime sauce; the beef, with marchand de vin sauce. The surf and turf is plated with purple sweet potato from the Hawaiian Island of Molokai, fresh island vegetables and local mushrooms flown in from the Big Island of Hawaii. The main event will be paired with Au Bon Climat Pinot Noir Santa Barbara.

No meal is complete without dessert… and meal ender at the Hilton Hawaiian takes the cake. It’s called the Grande Finale Sampler and includes Hawaiian vanilla bean creme brulee, chocolate tower with raspberry coulis with macadamia nut ice cream and seasonal berries.

Before leaving the dinner table to retire to their hotel rooms, guests will receive an autographed commemorative menu, a travel guide, a travel-and-food focused DVD and cookbook from Food Network Kitchens titled, “How to Boil Water.”
