A lot of work goes into creating a family tree. It is something that you will cherish for years and pass on to your children and grandchildren.
You have two options when creating your family tree. You can choose to use a “Descendant Tree” which displays a couple and the family that has been created from their union. Or you could use your great-grandparents and show their children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The other option is to choose an “Ancestor Tree” which displays the couple, their children, and then shows the couple’s parents, grandparents and great-grandparents.
There are several ways in which you can print and display your family tree. You can fill in ready-made charts or create your own. You can display it in a small format or enlarge it and display it as a prominent piece of art in your home.
For those who want to do the latter, there is a website which allows you to purchase family tree art. The site is Arbor Arts. They create your family tree, print it, mat it and frame it. It comes to you ready to display or to give as a gift.
A nicely framed family tree, such as the one I described above makes a great gift for parents and grandparents. It is also great to display during a family reunion. I am considering getting one made to hang in the hallway in my home. I would then give it to my son to be passed down to his children.
Another website, The Tree Maker, has 21 family tree charts to choose from that can be ordered on their website for only $19.95. This doesn’t include the matting and framing that other sites offer, but it is more affordable if you are just looking for a chart.
Ancestry Graphics & Printing website offers family tree printing. They are able to print directly from your own GEDCOM file that you have saved from your own software. They offer several sizes, designs and printing options.
If you would like to create your own family tree chart for free and print it yourself, you can get one from Free Family Tree Charts. They offer three styles in PDF format.
I’m not sure which I will use but I know I am excited to make my own family tree art and frame it to display in our home.
Do you have a framed family tree?
