A Fun Shopping Tradition

Yesterday my husband and I took our annual “day off”. We are both so busy we need this day to get our Christmas plans straight. It’s a great tradition. I know a lot of women do all the shopping by themselves. I like to include my husband. Particularly now that the boys are older they have a lot of technical gadgets, games and software on their lists. He knows which are worthwhile and he knows the best places to get those kinds of things. And I really feel like he should be the one to pick out gifts for his family.

We took the kids to school and then sat down with their wish lists. We wrote out the other gifts we needed to buy for family, friends and coworkers. We planned which stores we needed to visit and headed off. A few stores later, it was time for a nice sit down lunch at one of our favorite restaurants. After lunch we went to the grocery store to buy some gift certificates. They had such pretty trees we ended up buying a live one for the first time in years. We reviewed our lists and headed home to do the rest of the shopping online. At home we stashed Christmas presents and drug the Christmas boxes out of the basement.

It’s nice to take a day to plan for Christmas. If we are talking about presents our kids seem to hear us, no matter how quietly we whisper. I know at least one of them would notice if we tried to hide gifts while they were home. We also reviewed our calendars and party invitations. It’s going to be a very busy month.

We got a lot accomplished, but it did feel like a day off, too. We even did take out for dinner because I was busy putting lights on the tree. It’s fun to have a day together and get fun things planned for the month.
