A Good Idea for Keeping Socks Together

Do you have more single socks than pairs? Is your single sock stash growing to the size of Mount Washmore? If you have this very common problem, take a look at this good idea that will help you keep those socks together.

I really don’t know why I didn’t think of this idea because it is so simple. But the truth is that I read it in a magazine. The little light bulb flashed over my head, and I am determined to to institute it as soon as possible.

I’m going to go out and purchase a large lingerie bag for each person. These are the mesh bags that are usually filled with lingerie or delicate items to protect them in the washing machine. There are larger ones for sweaters, too. I’ll give each member of the family one of these bags and tell them to please place all of their dirty socks in their bag. When the bags are full, they can be zipped up and thrown into the washer and dryer. Each person’s socks are kept separately and in their pairs for easier sorting and no lost single socks. Isn’t that wonderful?

You could adapt this idea to anything that is difficult to keep track of in the laundry, such as underwear. This would be a great idea for families of multiples or where children are wearing similar sizes. Plus, it might be a good way to shift some of the responsibility of sorting the socks away from mom or the main laundry person.

Now if I could only come up with an idea like this that will work to keep track of each kid’s Legos. All three of my kids have their own individual special Legos, but they tend to wander into different rooms and get all mixed up. There are many arguments about whose special Lego piece belongs to whom. Any ideas?
